SoundWave - Episode 10 ('Best of...' Show)

(Note: cross-posted from here)

Today was the 'Best of...' show where I showed off the best of free Canadian content. As a bonus, none of these artists (as far as I know) are signed - at least signed at the time of the production. I think Toby Emerson is now signed.

While it showed of (most) of the best Canadian content that already made it to air, it also showed what some of the worst things that can happen technically speaking. Neither me or my supervisor happened really, but the CD player - when I advanced it to the next track because the song quiets down and is merely some bits of ambience to nothing (plus the speakers were at an unusually low volume which is why some songs got cut off) for a good couple of seconds - the played suddenly said that there was no disc. Not sure why it stopped reading, but it was a bit of a technical malfuction of some sort that wasn't replicated for the DJ after me. Odd.

Either way, I'm told I covered up very nicely given the supervisor couldn't figure out what happened and put my CD into the other player. It certainly was unusual, especially for me. I'm just glad it wasn't a complete disaster. Having said that, I have to appologise for not getting to the last two songs (I think the third to last song was cut off too because of the glitch) So I will be replaying all three of them on the next show.

As I said on the air, compiling this list was really hard. I didn't mention that it was the hardest list I had to compile ever in the history of the show. It's hard enough to compile a list out of some exploration and making music materialise in front of me so I can play, it's quite another to have a list of nearly 3 hours of music and knowing you have to wittle it down to a one hour show. It resulted in me going 'why am I not playing that one?' on a number of occasions while removing songs on the playlist. This is because every song I liked - even in their own aspects if other parts I had a certain disliking to it.

I also mentioned on air that the harder part was getting a wide variety of genres in the list. It's because it's like comparing apples and oranges when it comes to deciding whether I want a Drum N' Bass Track, an experimental track, hardcore, trance, dance, goa, etc. Though I think I'm happy with how the actual playlist panned out even if there was a little more trance then other genres (I like trance, what ya gonna do?)

Though this show wasn't all about doom and gloom, I actually happened to have one of the most priceless moments I've seen while DJing the show. While Toby Emerson was playing, there was a family just outside the studio dancing away. I think two of them were probably younger then 8 years old. I had to chuckle to myself given the samples used in the actual song (an almost 'demon-like' voice) I think they would have liked the Tai Quach or the Hypnotic Melody track better to be honest, but I'm not complaining. Just glad they enjoyed the music. :) It looked like the mother was showing her daughter how the station worked in general. I waved at them when they saw me to be nice, but they left shortly after.

The studio was also unusually hot. I'm not sure exactly why it was particularly hot (though a theory could be that the music is just that hot ;) ) Either way, I had to pull a fan into the studio just so I wouldn't pass out during the show  I know it could be the really warm lights, but even the computer in the room (the moniter that is) was turned off. It's typically on and heating up the room.

So the whole show was an adventure and a half. Probably the most eventful show I've had yet really.

Anyway, enough about me yapping on about life, here's the complete playlist (since they all would have been repeats, I've included all the un-aired tracks here too)

1. Digital Enigma - And So We Fall
2. Mike Linthorne - Korgy Jam Sess x6
3. Zale - Marooned
4. Tai Quach - Take My Breath Away (2006 Radio Edit)
5. Toby Emerson - Survivor
6. Hypnotic Melody - Rekindled Hope
7. Ami - Une Chose
8. Short Circuit - Neon Sky
9. Zale - Desire
10. Metro Muzik - Mellow
11. _steve - Dark Blue
12. DJ Chris Blackmore - Heaven's Eyes
13. General MIDI - Chalt

Everytime I recompile this list, I have to piece it together not in order to get the links up faster. That's the oddest part about this playlist. Anyway, enjoy the music. you have the whole show you can listen to (without my blathering or live technical difficulties too!) As always, check out the other music that didn't make the list, there's a bunch of them that is definitely worth checking out! :)

SoundWave's New Digital Radio

(Note: Cross-posted from here)

I'm taking advantage of SoundClick's radio feature and compiled an online station so you can check out all the music that is featured on SoundClick that is also featured on the official FM radio show. I recommend setting the station to 'Shuffle' for a real good mix. I'll add more music as I find them and put them on the air (as the list might be a tad skimpy for now). Though in the mean time, it should be even MORE convenient to download or listen to all the music that made it to air. Enjoy!

Soundwave - Episode 9

(Note: Cross-posted from here)

Here's the playlist used. I know I said I'd play two songs at the end, but my math was wrong and I didn't really play it. Though about 90% of the last song on this list was played anyway. great because it was an awsome song! :)

This also marks the first episode I opened with a free song. I thought I'd, once again, change things up a bit. You might also note (if you know all or most of these songs) that the music was really much more mixed together whereas last time it was pretty structured by genre's. Just keeping things fresh for the show really. Variety is also what it's all about too. :)

1. Blue Tonic World - Souvenir of Monterey
2. Silvertear - So Deep (Perfect Sphere Remix)
3. Walt & Feliz - Expansion
4. Lang feat. Sky - Drifting Away (Radio Edit)
5. Indy - Perspective Views
6. TalixZen - You Are a Freaky Junglist
7. Echo Voodoo - open Window
8. DJ FC - The Ride
9. Groove Coverage - Poison
10. CJ Stone - Storm (Joshua Cunningham Remix)
11. Logistics - Inside My Soul (friction and Nu Balance Remix)

Also, I announced on the show that I'd be doing a special for the 10th episode. I'm still not revealing it until either the playlist is posted or the show makes it to air (whichever comes first) In the mean time, enjoy the music! :)

Soundwave - Episode 6 (Aired March 29, 2007)

(Note: Cross-posted from here)

I appologise for such a long wait on this episode. Other things got the better of me. Anyway, this show pretty much went off without a hitch except for the fact I had to end the show with me talking. I don't really like to do that sort of thing myself personally, but it was more or less beyond my control thanks to the timing of my talking and the length of the songs. Oh well, no show goes without something to talk about. Anyway, here's the music I played that week:

1. Sub Focus - Special Place
2. Logistics - Beatbox Master
3. Groove Coverage - Runaway (DJ Manian Remix)
4. Mike Linthorne - Korgy Jam Sess x6
5. General MIDI - Chalt
6. Orion Foundation - A New Karma
7. Beat Chemist - Still Movement
8. The Opponent Process - So Stupid, Gordon
9. Vision84 - Highway Central (Original Mix)
10. Silvertear - So Deep (Wire Remix)

Great show with two other tracks that never made it to air. Thankfully, I'll be playing one of them tomorrow so the mystery won't be much.

Episode 5 Updated

(Note: Cross-posted from here)

I finally updated episode 5, appologies for such a long wait - busy time of year for me.
